How to Clean & Care for 925 Sterling Silver Jewellery

Posted by Mia McNeill on

925 Sterling Silver is an alloy made up of 92.5% Silver which is combined with 7.5% of other metals, such as copper, to ensure the jewellery is durable and retains its shape. Sterling silver is a great option for jewellery as it is affordable and won’t cause any skin reactions as it is hypoallergenic.

All of our jewellery at Dos Chicas Locas is stamped with ‘925’ so that you know you are purchasing a high quality, long-lasting product. This is a standard met by many of the world’s largest jewellery brands.

How to Clean your Jewellery

The best and easiest way to clean your Sterling silver jewellery is with a polishing cloth. This will remove any dust or grime and make it shine. Take care to not pull too hard on any chains or links. In some situations, you can also use a silver cleaner.

If you need a deeper clean, you can use warm water and a mild detergent to give the jewellery a soapy bath. This will rid the jewellery of any oil or grime. Afterwards, ensure that you rinse, pat them dry and polish the jewellery pieces with a cloth.

 Storing Your Jewellery

To ensure the longevity of your Dos Chicas Locas jewellery, store them in a dry place and make sure that no chains have been tangled or knotted together.

 What to AVOID

  • Harsh chemicals
  • Abrasive cleaners
  • Household chemicals
  • Chlorinated water
  • Rubber
  • Substances containing sulphur (latex, wool, eggs, mustard, etc.)
  • Direct sunlight
  • Hairspray

Put on your jewellery last so you avoid exposing it to any beauty products or perfumes by accident.
